I was born and raised in Hartwell, GA.  My Dad delivered me on New Year’s Eve.  There is speculation that the tax write-off played a role in the timing…  My Dad was a small-town Family Practitioner.  I grew up following my Dad around making house calls, hospital rounds, and going to nursing homes. My favorite house call was a family that always had a warm apple pie waiting when we arrived.  I learned early on that caring for patients was more than just seeing someone in the office for 10 minutes.  I spent my college years at the University of Georgia, which were the best 7 years of my life!  Joking, I was only there 4 years.  I was blessed to meet my beautiful wife in a Friday afternoon Biology lab that everyone was trying to get out of…  God has a perfect plan!  I attended medical school at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta.  Before and while in medical school, I worked with different specialists trying to figure out what field of medicine was right for me.  I liked different specialties, but my favorite rotation was a small-town Family Medicine rotation.  I guess it was just in my genes.  Our next stop was “Sparkle City”, also known as Spartanburg, SC, for residency.  I wanted a program that had a really busy hospital and would afford me the training and knowledge to care for a wide range of patients.  The 3 years in Spartanburg definitely prepared me to handle any situation.  Once I finished residency, we made the move to Gastonia.  We had a newborn and 2 year old at that time.  After 16 years of practicing medicine in Belmont/Gastonia, we now have an 18-year-old freshman at the University of Georgia, 11^th grader at Forestview, and a 9^th grader at Highland Tech.  Despite my children getting older, I have gotten younger.  My wife and I enjoy attending any events that our children are participating in.  We try to personally stay active and work to maintain our girlish figures.  A lot of my time through the years has been spent caring for my patients, and I plan to continue doing that.  Matthew 7:12 says it all.  I want to help other people and make their lives better.  Gaston Family Practice will allow me to provide the care to patients that everyone deserves.
